War with Iran May Be Only Weeks Away
Rusty
Congress, your anti-surge resolutions are four years too late, but it's not too late to stop Bush's next war. It's nice you finally noticed all of that innocent blood on your hands, but we're all going to be swimming in blood unless you stop this Texas Chainsaw Massacre Bush calls a presidency.
By February 24, two carrier battlegroups will be in the Persian Gulf region, the USS Stennis and USS Eisenhower battlegroups. The USS Bataan and USS Boxer amphibious strike groups will also be in striking range of Iran by then. That’s ominous, that's FOUR major naval task forces, comprising approximately 25,000 sailors and marines, more than two-hundred attack aircraft and helicopters, and hundreds of cruise missiles.
I’ve heard of gunboat diplomacy, it’s not uncommon, but this isn’t a show of force, it’s the culmination of 6 years of BushCo planning for a war with Iran. According to Seymour Hersch The Decider is, “absolutely convinced that Iran is going to get the bomb if it is not stopped. He believes that he must do what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do, and that saving Iran is going to be his legacy.”
“One former defense official, who still deals with sensitive issues for the Bush Administration,” told Hersch “that the military planning was premised on a belief that ‘a sustained bombing campaign in Iran will humiliate the religious leadership and lead the public to rise up and overthrow the government.’ He added, ‘I was shocked when I heard it, and asked myself, ‘What are they smoking?’ ”
Whatever they’re smoking, they must be passing the bong to Congress. While our congressmen and senators are bumbling around with their Cheech and Chong anti-surge resolutions, Bush has his next war all arranged. His black ops admiral at CENTCOM, in addition to having control over the largest naval armada in the Gulf region since Bush attacked Iraq in 2003, also has several hundred land-based Air Force and Marine strike aircraft under his control.
Even more naval and air power may be on the way, the USS Reagan carrier battlegroup departed San Diego on January 27 and is heading for the “Western Pacific” in response to “short notice surge deployment” orders. If the USS Iran-Contra sails right through the Western Pacific and ends up in the Arabian Sea, don’t be surprised.
Congressional Democrats, that guy down at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue is BATSHIT INSANE. You have got to loudly and publicly tell him that he has no authority under any circumstances to attack or “retaliate” against Iran without the formal approval of Congress. Chairman Ike Skelton of the House Armed Services Committee seems to have finally noticed that BushCo is intent upon attacking Iran, and issued an aggressive statement calling for "careful Congressional scrutiny" of the Bush regime's recent accusations against Iran.
You need to carefully scrutinize much more than that, Chairman Skelton.
Bush and Cheney know these investigations are going to bring them down, they see a war with Iran as their only chance of staying in office. It will escalate, the whole Middle East will erupt, the global economy will collapse, they’ll declare martial law, and Democrats won’t have to worry about whether to support Hillary or Obama or Edwards or anyone else in 2008. There won’t be any more elections in America. Ever.
Wake the Hell up, Democrats! War with Iran may be only weeks away.
Comment # 1 ~ Rusty ~ 12/04/2006 09:59 GMT Hi Eloquence in Action,
I have confidence there will be justice, not because of politician's promises, but because there are Americans like you. Thank you for another message from the heart of a hero.
Comment # 2 ~ Reed31463 ~ 12/04/2006 10:06 GMT Do you remember when you were a kid and the answer NO always meant maybe? Well the politicians treat us just like kids and that's how I am thinking about it.
Do not give up! Near the end of July I wrote this article and in it I wrote: We are entering a period of great cusp, where the interactions of a billion separate intertwined forces and events will determine the probable course that America will take. Possibly for the next few decades and/or centuries ahead. Three months are all that remain to affect the fulfillment and outcome of these events.
If the Republicans win the election and the 110th Congress refuses to assert their power, the path to imperialist global fascism is almost assured. There will be no real avenue available to turn back the losses of liberty without assistance from outside the US.
If Democrats win, the road to accountability will remain open and preserving the Constitution will remain a viable option. The main cast of usurpers will almost assuredly be investigated. However, unlike a Republican victory where the means to restoring liberty will be nearly impossible, a Democratic victory will see paths that are more easily turned and reshaped. ...
We are still on that great cusp and the door to a bright future remains open. We are going to need everyone we can getto keep their foot in the door, while they are trying to close it on us after they stole our shoes.
Painful yes. But I am going to reach my hand in the door and start to choke those rotten bastards one by one. Will you help me?

Comment # 4 ~ Alma ~ 12/04/2006 13:59 GMT Tia, I think while you meant to just express your own feelings, that you have also captured mine. It went right to my heart.
I really bleieve that justice will be served in the end, whether by upstanding politicians, or from us little people.
On a happier note. John Bolton resigned! Yeah!!!
Comment # 5 ~ TruthInAction ~ 12/04/2006 14:10 GMT I love you guys. Thanks for being in my world. WE will push onward.
Comment # 6 ~ tahoebasha1 ~ 12/04/2006 14:59 GMT TIA - When I first read "off the table" my heart sank and tears came to my eyes -- all I could say to myself was, "no, this couldn't be happening." After everything, "no," please tell me "no" it's not true, but it was. Then the need to cope and reconcile with one's own emotions and thoughts. So, I was there with you! But, then, hope always comes into the picture and we know we have to have hope and believe that the right thing will happen, even if it's WE to have to make it happen!
Comment # 7 ~ feline ~ 12/04/2006 15:04 GMT Yes, TIA, captured my feelings as well. I've been on an emotional rollercoaster - some days I feel the confidence that others do, others I feel very worried, and would feel utterly lost were it not for the fact that enough people share our convictions in justice and ourselves, as Rusty says. Last night was a low point for me on that roller coaster. I began doing research prompted by JC's most recent post on Iraq, only to find that any attempt to access information on The Constitution in Crisis resulted in broken links, error pages, and ultimately in the freezing and repeated reboots of my computer. This happens several times using several different search engines and links. Even the links in JC's posts on Huffpo and his own blog site lead to either deadends or a total lockout on my computer. What in the hell is going on? We can't even read what was openly available on the internet anymore? The House site that used to have the pdf files for Conyers' Report is an error page now. I am actually really scared right now. I'm almost ready to drive to Michigan or D.C. and make sure that JC is alright. That's how I feel right now...
Comment # 8 ~ feline ~ 12/04/2006 15:18 GMT You may experience technical difficulties if you click on these links!
Constitution in Crisis
Page cannot be found
examples of what I'm talking about; I realize that links get outdated and broken; but these pages cause a freezup or lockout, even of access to my task monitor; which I will probably experience now that I have those windows open; so be forewarned before clicking on those links.
Comment # 9 ~ feline ~ 12/04/2006 15:28 GMT Now I can't even log in to CB anymore! #%&$!!!!!!
Comment # 10 ~ feline ~ 12/04/2006 23:39 GMT I feel like a different person now. I was able to change my password and can post on CB; maybe I need more practice at logging in and out.
My point is that we share the same frustrations; and when I posted them on CB, fellow bloggers offered information and support. I think JC wants us to be more than patient; I think he also wants us to be brave. We need you on CB, TIA. You have a command of the English language, and excellent researching skills. I know I feel strong one day or minute, and fetal the next; and we keep picking eachother up. The shouts for impeachment are growing louder than the rhetoric and excuses of the administration - can you hear it?- it's hurting Bush's ears so much, he's running over to FOX for an interview, where they speak his language.
Comment # 11 ~ TruthInAction ~ 12/05/2006 01:36 GMT Yes, we do keep picking each other up, feline. That is why I am so grateful for each and every one of you. I truly do not know what I would have done without Soapbox, TeamConyers AND JC's blog. It was a haven in the storm. We'll weather this through together.
Comment # 12 ~ Rusty ~ 12/05/2006 01:53 GMT Maureen Dowd is a scribbling rookie compared to our Cathy and TIA.
Comment # 13 ~ Rusty ~ 12/05/2006 02:07 GMT Cathy, if your "computer" wasn't fetal one minute and bursting into flames the next minute, we'd be reading Daily Cat everyday now instead of Daily Kos.
And TIA, your contributions here and on CB have been inspired us all. I admire your range of expression, it extends from analyticcal to intensely personal.
I'm usually stuck in one style of expression--Full Volume Primal Rant.
I'm working on that, but after about 2 sentences, FVPR kicks in every time, and off I go.
Comment # 14 ~ Rusty ~ 12/05/2006 02:10 GMT You spell better than me too, TIA, I was trying to spell 'analytical'
Comment # 15 ~ feline ~ 12/05/2006 02:17 GMT I cherish everyone's words here, tears, laughs, and all! :)
Comment # 16 ~ keenekarl ~ 12/05/2006 22:45 GMT TIA, you know how I feel, and you expressed it so well!
Cat - It tried those links to Constitution in Crisis, and had trouble too! That's too bad. I'm glad I downloaded and saved a PDF copy earlier! Anyone wanting a copy on CD, just let me know!
We all wait with bated breath for the first of the year to come and the new Congress seated - and then we will know them by their fruits!
I'm hoping for sweet fruit - not lemons!
Comment # 17 ~ keenekarl ~ 12/05/2006 23:01 GMT When I've clicked on the link provided on the House Judiciary Committee page for Constitution in Crisis, it goes to a blank page and says on my computer "the file is damaged and could not be repaired". Perhaps Conyers wanted increased book sales and disabled the original file? Or was it sabotage? I wonder if they will fix the problem, since it was an official government report? Whatever the case at Judiciary, I found out that you can still access the entire report on-line as a PDF download at the following: http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/downloads/crisis/fullreport.pdf
Comment # 18 ~ unspun ~ 12/06/2006 01:06 GMT TIA, I know we were all stunned to some degree to see JC's "impeachment off the table" statement on his blog. We've all had a variety of reactions--from anger to despair, to the hope that the “off the table” remark won’t stand (and I'm just talking about my reactions).
I’m sure there were a lot of backroom negotiations between the Democrats in Congress regarding what their priorities and agenda would be, with a lot of compromises being made. Apparently the Chairmanship of House Committees isn’t automatic--as Pelosi’s appointment of Reyes as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee shows. Did Pelosi tell JC that he’d have to agree to drop impeachment if he wanted to be named Judiciary Chair? Or did Pelosi, JC, other Dems decide to postpone talk of impeachment until after January 3, and after investigations (such as those promised by Henry Waxman, etc) begin to show that action must be taken?
I don’t have any answers to those questions. What I believe is this: The politicians in DC hope that Bush will suddenly understand that he has to work with Congress, that he will recognize that he’s a lame duck and will go along with all their agenda in a nobly bipartisan fashion. They may even hope that if some of the investigations turn up hard evidence of illegalities, that Bush will just quietly resign.
I’m not sure if they actually have a “Plan B” when this doesn’t come about—At this point, I’ve chosen to believe that they do have a Plan B—to use JC’s “Bush Versus the Constitution” as a checklist for action. But, I believe that the politicians in DC always wait for their constituents to lead them to taking action on controversial or difficult issues. The DC types would still be echoing “stay the course” if the majority of the people hadn’t told them “enough”—it’s time for change.
Comment # 19 ~ Rusty ~ 12/06/2006 01:54 GMT Thanks, unspun,
That's a very good summation, I think you've identified the dynamics involved. Basically, our job as progressive activists is never going to be over because politicians are politicians.
The good news is that there are more of us than ever before, and we have the Internet. That's a powerful combination, as the Beltway establishment is discovering.
Comment # 20 ~ tahoebasha1 ~ 12/06/2006 02:49 GMT Thanks, Unspun! I have been saying essentially the same thing down the line since the words "off the table" came about. I truly believe it will still be up to US to pull it off ultimately!
Comment # 21 ~ Neerav ~ 12/26/2006 17:25 GMT That was indeed beautiful, and is a great Christmas present.
