Demanding Truth, Justice and Accountability in Government

Bring Our Soldiers Home

Rusty

For six long, brutal years, as Bush and his Rovian thugs turned our government into a wasteland of corruption and abuse of power, Democrats in Congress let us down, over and over gain. They behaved more like whipped dogs than American lawmakers. But the long-dormant greatness of the Democratic Party is finally beginning to reappear.

TRex at FDL likes what he’s seeing: "Well, I don't know about you guys, but so far I think the 110th Congress is an unqualified success. I especially liked hearing Grandma Pelosi quietly and patiently explain to the Toddler-in-Chief today that he needs to suck it up and learn to effing cooperate before she pulls this country over and tans his behind out in front of God and everybody."

I wouldn’t call the 110th Congress an unqualified success, but at least Democrats are finally recovering from Whipped Dog Syndrome. They are finally standing up for us. Chairman Waxman is standing up for us, Chairman Leahy is standing up for us, Chairman Conyers is standing up for us, they’re all standing up for us. They need much more than our gratitude, they need our direct and active support. We need to expand and intensify our support for them as they confront this criminal president with investigations and legislation to compel withdrawal from Iraq.

Senate passage of the funding bill makes it imperative that progressives do everything they can to generate public support for Democrats in Congress. IMO, the most immediate task is to deluge America's newspapers with letters-to-the-editor, so I’m imploring every progressive to write an LTE supporting funded withdrawal from Iraq by 2008. Together, we can surge tens of thousands of letters to newspapers across this country and show George and Dick what a real surge looks like.

Most Americans don't read blogs, but millions of them read letters to the editor. They don’t trust what the media tells them, but they listen to what fellow citizens are saying. I'm posting the LTE I’ve written as an example of what I think we should emphasize. If anyone cares to use it as a basis for their own LTE, they are very welcome to do so.

Bring Our Soldiers Home

"George W. Bush is threatening to veto Congressional funding for our troops in Iraq. Democrats are determined to fund our troops, but they are also determined to bring them home within a year. They know our soldiers are not fighting terrorists in Iraq, they are targets in a bloody Sunni-Shi’ite civil war. Withdrawal from Iraq is not a defeat, it is a strategic redeployment that will enable our military to target and destroy Al Qaeda.

As citizens, taxpayers, and voters, we are ultimately responsible for the decisions our government makes. Democrats in Congress are listening to us and deserve our support. Our young soldiers in Iraq are depending on us, they are dying every day in that wasteland of sectarian hatred. They want to come home. This Congressional funding bill will bring them home.

Enough is enough. Every American has become a co-dependent of a delusional president, and it’s time for an intervention. For seven long years, we have been deceived and shamed by the worst president in American history. His irrational threats to veto this funded withdrawal bill are a disgrace. The only way to support our troops is to end Bush’s occupation of Iraq. For the sake of our soldiers, for the sake of our self-respect as a nation, please call your representatives in Congress and tell them they must vote to override Bush’s veto."

I know I'll never give up Buddy. It will happen, with all of us working on it. I just hope it happens sooner, rather than later.

Our idealism, our hard work, our faith in each other and love for America - our determination to redeem America, kicked 6 RePug "senators" and 30 RePug "representatives" out of "Congress" two months ago, and the same resolve will get Bush & Co kicked out of office before they can do any more damage! The surge of resistance to this administration has begun swelling, and the wave is about to bring their house down!
