Why have you run for reelection every two years since 1964? Did you ever take your reelection off the table because you might not have enough votes? Of course not, you reached out to people to build public support and to get votes. You explained the issues to them, you told them why voting for you was important. So why, despite glaring and comprehensive evidence that the president and vice-president have been violating our Constitution and our laws for seven years, are you claiming you don’t have enough votes and are stubbornly refusing to even talk about Impeachment?

In every reelection campaign, you recognized that generating public support was vital, yet you won’t reach out to people to generate public support for Impeachment. In stark contrast to your approach on every other issue, you won’t explain why pursuing Impeachment is important, you won’t even whisper the word.

What are we to conclude from this? Not having enough votes has never stopped any Democrat from running for reelection. None of you have ever told us you didn’t have enough time to run for reelection. Republican opposition to your reelection never stopped any of you from doing everything you could to overcome their opposition. So how can you claim with any semblance of credibility that not having enough votes, not having enough time, and having Republican opposition to Impeachment are legitimate reasons to not pursue it?

Republicans controlled the House for twelve years and the Senate for the last four years. Did Democrats take regaining the House and Senate off the table because there were too many Republicans in the House and Senate? No. You all worked tirelessly through election cycle after election cycle, reaching out to the public for support BECAUSE there were too many Republicans in the House and Senate.

Every Democrat in Congress understood that Republican power was not an obstacle to avoid, it was the central issue to address and overcoming it was the highest priority. So why are Democrats avoiding Impeachment? It is not an obstacle to avoid, it is the central issue to address. Every other issue is secondary because Bush and Cheney are the directly responsible for every government and public policy problem this country is facing.

They are directly responsible for this bloody fiasco in Iraq. They are directly responsible for the pervasive abuses of power and obstruction of justice being exposed on a daily basis throughout the entire executive branch of the federal government. They are directly responsible for massive and blatantly illegal NSA spying on Americans, for institutionalizing the torture of human beings in violation of the Geneva Conventions, and for criminal actions ranging from the exposure of a covert CIA operative to the subversion of elections and the relentless perpetration of fraud throughout the entire defense and intelligence establishments.

Impeachment would divide the country? Bush and Cheney have been dividing the country ever since they lied their way through their oaths of office in 2001. Their divisive policies, divisive rhetoric, and divisive agendas are destroying this country. Our self-respect as a nation has been destroyed and can never be restored if these criminals are not Impeached.

Chairman Conyers, your refusal to initiate Impeachment hearings is indefensible. It is a moral obligation above and beyond any political consideration. Impeachment is a Constitutional responsibility you and your colleagues in Congress have been entrusted with by our Founding Fathers. It is an absolute necessity. If you do not Impeach, you will be betraying them, you will be betraying every law-abiding American citizen, and you will be betraying every principle of law and justice America has stood for ever since our founding as a nation in 1776.

Thank you for your comments on CB and here, Tahoe and Alma. We've pleaded for justice and accountability over and over again. We've been meeting our responsibilities as American citizens all along, without much help from 280 million other American "citizens".

Many Democrats and even some Republicans are finally starting to listen to us. But listening is not enough. Talking about non-binding resolutions is not enough. They need to actively and aggressively defend the Constitution by ENFORCING IT, and they need to start doing that NOW!

Rusty, we have so, so much frustration going on -- it's daunting. Yes, of course, these non-binding resolutions are basically a waste of time -- something MAJOR needs to happen. I cannot foresee the ensuing next two years being spent on a wasted time and energy to no avail -- it makes me sick to think of it. Somehow, we, Americans have to find a way! We've tried so many things and to some extent, it has worked, but not worked in the sense that it needs to thus far.
