The Decider’s Empire
Rusty
Last year former President Jimmy Carter warned, “there are people in Washington who never intend to withdraw military forces from Iraq and they're looking for 10, 20, 50 years in the future. The reason that we went into Iraq was to establish a permanent military base in the Gulf region.”
In the San Francisco Chronicle, Lewis Seiler and Dan Hamburg warn, “there is to be no withdrawal from Iraq, just as there has been no withdrawal from hundreds of places around the world that are outposts of the American empire. As UC San Diego professor emeritus Chalmers Johnson put it, "One of the reasons we had no exit plan from Iraq is that we didn't intend to leave."
The massive, one-billion dollar American Embassy in Baghdad is glaring proof of the Bush/Cheney cabal’s fierce determination to establish permanent military, political, and economic control over Iraq. One would think that the building in Baghdad of the world’s largest and costliest embassy would indicate to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid that The Decider has absolutely no intention of ever withdrawing our troops from Iraq, and convince them that the only negotiating they should do with him should be confined to whether he should be locked up here or here or perhaps even more suitably, at this place.
This isn't about supporting the troops, Nancy and Harry. It's about oil. According to Knight Ridder, Bush’s CPA hacks in Baghdad greet questions about BushCo’s embassy with a curtness that borders on hostility,” perhaps because Iraqi’s contemptuously refer to the sprawling 104 acre complex as “George W’s Palace”. Another reason could be that one of the no bid contractors for BushCo’s embassy, We Fuck Everything Up, Inc. built several of the embassy buildings out of depleted uranium because of a shipping invoice mistake. Meanwhile, somewhere in Anbar Province, Apache gunships are firing 2 by 4’s at the insurgents. In Why There Was No Exit Plan Seiler and Hamburg note that “the United States maintains 737 military bases in 130 countries across the globe. They exist for the purpose of defending the economic interests of the United States, what is euphemistically called "national security." In order to secure favorable access to Iraq's vast reserves of light crude, the United States is spending billions on the construction of at least five large permanent military bases throughout that country.”
Further glaring proof of why Bush and Cheney lied us into invading Iraq is evident in the new Iraq Oil Law. Seiler and Hamburg report that it was “largely written by the Coalition Provisional Authority and is planned for ratification by June. This law cedes control of Iraq's oil to western powers for 30 years.” Joshua Holland at AlterNet confirms that “the American oil companies Exxon Mobil and Chevron, and the British oil companies BP Amoco and Royal Dutch Shell will have full control of Iraqi oil and will reap the profits until 2037 if this oil law is ratified by The Decider’s puppet government in Baghdad.
Blood for Oil. An American Empire in the Middle East. That’s what this war is about, has always been about, and always will be about, Reid and Pelosi. Do not back down on funded withdrawal from Iraq timelines. Send Bush back the same bill he just vetoed.
Comment # 1 ~ unspun ~ 02/18/2007 23:59 GMT Thanks for another inspiring post. I've been trying to word my next communication to the 'critters since the sad debacle in the Senate on Saturday. I do think it would be more effective if several people would do "pile ons" of the same groups of 'critters. So, I will take your advice & call Reps. Conyers & Pelosi. I'll add Hoyer, Waters, Wasserman-Schultz, Meehan, Delahunt, and Jackson Lee (other Judiciary Members) in my next round of contacts this coming week.
Comment # 2 ~ Alma ~ 02/19/2007 00:33 GMT Good idea Unspun. I'm game for it.
Comment # 3 ~ tahoebasha1 ~ 02/19/2007 01:36 GMT It seems that is the only way to go. I don't need to call my Reps. -- they are there, Durbin, Obama and Jackson. So, I think I will start to tackle others as mentioned.
Comment # 4 ~ tahoebasha1 ~ 02/19/2007 01:37 GMT Reps. (meaning Congressman and Senators).
