Demanding Truth, Justice and Accountability in Government

Specter Crawls onto Senate Floor, Introduces a Bill to "Legalize" Lawlessness

Rusty

Arlen Specter is an obscene travesty of a human being. His Orwellian portrayal of himself as a defender of the Constitution descended to a new level of depravity on June 8, when he introduced a Senate bill that would “legalize” GOP violations of the United States Constitution and our laws. As Glenn Greenwald, Georgia10, and other progressives warned today, this bill would provide The Decider with the “option” of seeking a FISA warrant for his illegal spying on American citizens. It is a shameful surrender to the lunatics who have hijacked our government, and would transform our Constitution into a meaningless scrap of paper.

Specter’s bill would ensure that no one in the Bush Administration, federal agencies, the NSA, or anywhere else who has brazenly violated our Constitution and broken our laws by authorizing or engaging in spying on the American people can ever be held accountable by the American people. It would provide unlimited, permanent amnesty to the GOP perpetrators of the most massive, lawless, intrusive attack on our civil liberties ever devised.

In the entire history of the United States Congress, no bill has ever been introduced that poses such a threat to our survival as a democracy. Specter’s obscene “legislation” would deal a death blow to our Constitution and Bill of Rights, it would cast them into oblivion and grant unlimited power and authority to that pack of GOP criminals currently infesting what used to be America’s White House.

We’ve all watched Specter’s demeaning antics over the past few months as he has indulged his vanity and egomania by posturing as a defender of our Constitution. We’ve heard him scold Bush, seen him wag his finger at him, and watched him huff and puff about the need for Congressional oversight. Deep in our hearts, we’ve harbored the hope that despite his craven history as a worthless sack of shit, Specter might somehow summon a shred of integrity and defend us at long last from these White House criminals and the lawless renegades they have infiltrated throughout the federal government in order to crush the last breath out of freedom in America.

That fading hope is gone. It’s gone forever. On June 8, 2006, Specter exposed himself as the foul traitor he has always been. This concoctor of the ridiculous single-bullet theory and infamous charlatan of the Warren Commission has thrived for forty years in Washington by licking the boots of the powerful. His introduction of this abominable “legislation” proves beyond any doubt that there never has been and never will be any sewage he won’t wade through if he thinks it will advance his career.

Call your senators! Do not be polite. Do not meekly implore them to vote against this bill. Warn them that a vote for this bill is a vote for treason, and demand that they introduce an immediate censure resolution against Specter. His craven betrayal of our Constitution and our laws will never cease unless he is formally condemned by the Senate for this sordid attempt to drive a stake through the heart of American democracy.

I think Arlen needs to hear from us too.

Mr. SPECTER introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred
to the Committee on the Judiciary
S 1967 Secret Service Author
ization and Technical Modification Act of 2005

§ 3056A. Powers, authorities, and duties of United States Secret Service Uniformed Division

‘‘(a) There is hereby created and established a permanent police force, to be known as the ‘United States Secret Service Uniformed Division’. Subject to the supervision of the Secretary of Homeland Security, the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division shall perform such duties as the Director, United States Secret Service, may prescribe in connection with the protection of the following:

la la la.. laundry list of events...yada yada yada

‘‘(b)(1) Under the direction of the Director of the Secret Service, members of the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division are authorized to—
‘‘(A) carry firearms;
‘‘(B) make arrests without warrant for any offense against the United States committed in their presence, or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing such felony;

This Gestapo bill convinced me anything Mr. Specter says must be weighed against his behavior and actions or lack thereof. His actions betray his true nature. He is a major contributer and player in leading and enabling this administration to conduct crimes and treason, including introducing legislation that creates the most egregious violations of our civil rights.

These two bills cannot, must not, never ever pass and become the lawlessness of the land.

Senator Specter, I charge you with 5 USC 3331, failure to uphold your oath of office and treason against our beloved Constitution.

Incredible! Arlen Spector has clearly lost his mind -- perfectly willing to give up the civil rights of all Americans, while his own government continues to break the laws left and right. He has obviously lost all sense of rationale thinking. Call your Senators without fail on this fascist piece of legislation, and while you're at it, write Sen. Spector and let him have a piece of your mind, as well.

Specter is claiming he hasn't introduced this bill. He's lying.
