The Midterm Elections: Republican Fascism is the Issue

Rusty

Republicans are not going to tattoo “Hi! I'm a Fascist!” on their foreheads. But that’s what they have become, so the Netroots have no choice but to frame midterm issues accordingly. If we don’t openly condemn these post-9/11 Republicans as fascists, we deserve to lose again.

For six long years, Republicans have covertly ruled as fascists while patriotically portraying themselves as “strong and resolute defenders of America.” Their fascist agenda has weakened them because it has produced one disaster after another, so as he always does, Rove plans to transform a Republican weakness into a political advantage, while attacking the Democrats’ greatest strength and portraying it as a weakness.

Consequently, the Rovian spiel of Republican candidates will be: Laws must be ignored in certain cases in order to defend the homeland. Spying and torture are necessary because the “enemies” of the homeland are evil. American “leftists” are even more evil than foreign enemies like “terrorists” because they are “traitors.”

Instead of acknowledging that rampant Republican violations of the Constitution and our laws are something to be ashamed of, Republicans will proudly portray themselves as “post-9/11 realists” who “understand” that “strong leadership” is the only way to save America from destruction at the hands of the “terrorists.” They will castigate Democratic “carping” about pre-9/11 laws as weakness, and warn America that electing Democrats will be national suicide.

Republicans will proclaim fascism as a patriotic virtue, they just won’t call it fascism. Duh. They will embrace racism as a patriotic virtue, they just won’t call it racism. Duh. They will portray lawbreaking as a patriotic virtue, they just won’t call it lawlessness. Duh.

Progressives who take such pride in their integrity, honesty, idealism, and courage are not demonstrating any of these qualities if they refuse to openly and publicly condemn Republicans as fascists. The evidence of Republican fascism is as glaring as it is nauseating. They subvert elections. They glorify militarism. They wage illegal wars. They abhor dissent. They spy on their domestic enemies. They control the media. They fearmonger. They worship big business. They loathe labor unions. They infest government bureaucracies with cronies and hacks. They are racists. They are sexists. They rule through deceit, corruption, and intimidation.

Bush is a fascist. Cheney is a fascist. Republicans in Congress are fascists. We are never going to crash through the fascist gates guarding these Beltway criminals and their enablers unless we tell America the sickening truth about them. If we don’t summon the courage to do that, we are as sick as they are.

Rusty, Thank you for saying what is true. The present administration is operating under fascist philosophy. But don't take my word for it:

Definitions of Fascism :
1. From dictionary.com:

.. “A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism… ”
2. From: Merriam-Webster OnLine:

“ A political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition…”

I can't add anything to that, Rusty. You've covered the whole nefarious situation in a "nutshell." What I can say is that Dems need to STOP being defensive -- strike out offensively with truth -- and, why not call them by name? FASCISTS!

Too many progressives refuse to acknowledge the degeneration of American conservatism into fascism. Even those who acknowledge it are extremely reluctant to tell the truth, apparently because they are afraid of being accused of "peddling inflammatory rhetoric." Their shameful self-censorship makes them enablers of Rove and this fascist regime. Ignoring the fundamental issue of the 2006 midterms enables Rove to cynically frame secondary issues in terms of "strong leadership" Republicans and "weak defeatist" Democrats.

Relentless RePug propaganda, smear campaigns, rigged elections, and an October surprise are going to be difficult enough to overcome, so why do so many progressives want to handcuff ourselves by refusing to talk about WHY the RePugs spew propaganda, rig elections, smear opponents, and wield "patriotism" as a lethal weapon against us?

The Republicans continue to accuse the Democrats of not having an agenda. The agenda is simple:

UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION AND INTERNATIONAL LAW.

That agenda seems to require an immense amount of strength these days, more strength than most of the Republicans and officials in the administration have demonstrated. The heavy responsibility of upholding the Constitution must be too much to bear with the added weight of corporate campaign contributions, blind trusts, lucrative lobbyist deals, and threats from "superiors". Something is going to get dropped trying to juggle the lies and the laws.

So, what's it going to be Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Rove, Addington, Yoo, Graham, Kyl, Gonzalez:

THE CONSTITUTION, OR CORRUPTION?

Our duties as citizens to stand up and speak out is a right and responsibility also outlined in the Constitution.

I agree with you, Rusty, and all; we must voice our dissent and observations.

Good points, Feline. Addington is especially dangerous, he's the driving force behind much of this Bush regime lawlessness.

Have I mentioned lately that they're all fascists? If not, I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that they're all fascists.
