House Resolution 635: The Path to America's Redemption

I do not indulge in euphemisms. Euphemisms are lies. Betrayal of the Constitution is betrayal of the Constitution, and those members of the House of Representatives who have refused thus far to co-sponsor and support John Conyers’ House Resolution 635 are betraying their sworn oaths to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. The posturing and hollow words we hear from most Democratic incumbents about accountability are sickening. Their abject fear of the Republican smear machine has paralyzed them, emboldens their Rovian tormentors, and invites George W. Bush to keep lecturing the world about his greatness and war-waging skills, inciting even more global revulsion and loathing for America.

House Resolution 635, introduced by Congressman John Conyers Jr. and co-sponsored thus far by thirty-six members of the House of Representatives, would establish a select committee to investigate the Bush Administration’s documented misconduct prior to the invasion and occupation of Iraq, its covert manipulation of pre-war intelligence, its shameful authorization of the torture of human beings, and its slanderous attacks on those who dare speak out in defense of the Constitution and the rule of law in America. Upon concluding its investigation, this select committee would have the authority to make recommendations to the House of Representatives regarding grounds for the impeachment of George W. Bush.

Since the craven moral cowards infesting the House of Representatives will not defend our Constitution, average American citizens, Netroots bloggers, media activists and entertainers are taking a stand with Congressman Conyers and his 36 co-sponsors to defend it. The HR635 PSA Project is a nationwide effort being made at this time to support these courageous Democratic lawmakers. If you have a pulse and are currently breathing, I ask you to participate in this important project. No other qualifications are necessary, and no other factors are relevant, except perhaps a world war and 20 million dead if these Bush Administration criminals aren’t investigated, prosecuted, convicted, and imprisoned very soon.

As we all know, George W. Bush’s current Chamber of People’s Deputies, formerly known as the United States House of Representatives, does not conduct investigations.
But every new poll increasingly indicates that Democrats can pick up as many as fifty seats this November, which would make Congressman Conyers Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. And as we all know, Congressman Conyers has expressed some interest in actually defending the Constitution with long-forgotten things like HEARINGS.

For those of us who can’t recall what Hearings are, they are events where committee members ask these things called QUESTIONS. In 2007, in Congressman Conyers’ Select Committee, it would work like this: federal government employees like Karl Rove and Alberto Gonzalez would be invited to appear, and if they ignore these invitations, things called SUBPEONAS would be issued.

These subpoena things would require Karl and Alberto and their buddies to TESTIFY UNDER OATH about things like: Who else conspired with Richard Bruce Cheney to deceive the American people and Congress into a bloody war of Neo-con conquest in Iraq? Whose bright idea was it to destroy a CIA network working to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons? Why has George W. Bush infested government agencies with partisan Republican hacks? Ten or fifteen-thousand other questions would need to be answered as well, but you get the idea.

Winning the midterm elections is the first step we must take on our long national journey to redemption. The second step is the passage and implementation of House Resolution 635. Democratic candidates and incumbents can campaign this fall on preferred issues, but once they gain control of the House, they must sanctify the victims of this Republican crime spree. They must prove to America and the world that we are a nation of laws. In January 2007, they must immediately co-sponsor and pass House Resolution 635.

The shame Bush and his Republican co-conspirators have brought upon America can never be erased. The human suffering and material damage they have inflicted upon this nation and the world will take years to rectify. They have the blood of 20,000 maimed and killed American soldiers on their hands. They have condemned the men, women, and children of Iraq to a nightmare existence of brutality and death beyond the power of words to describe. They must be brought to justice.

I'm so glad you Front Paged this. I think these PSAs are our best chance of getting truth out to people who aren't online.

It is so important for these to get aired. I hope everyone gets ahold of their local radio stations and their House Representative, and if possible donate so more PSAs can be made.

Rusty, thanks for the 1,001 reasons to support Cong. Conyers H.R. 635 and these worthy PSA's we are able to provide readers, so they, too, can become a part of this HR635 PSA Project by helping to contact progressive radio stations and ask them to air these PSA's, as well as contact other blog sites and seek their help in posting them, as well. Thanks for a really good job at promoting this very worthy cause.

The administration’s continued ignoring of the US Constitution, use of signing statements, and ignoring of treaties must be checked before they can do 2 1/2 years more damage to this country and to the world. "Barkus" has been on the scene for a couple of days now. Although, usually very quiet in nature, he came up with some concerns as to a certain bloke who may be a "prig" in disguise. He also wonders what would be the appropriate "shots" for this bloke, i.e.,
- a shot for a brat?
- a shot for a temperamental artist?
- a shot, as in need for a "shot" of whatever?
- or, simply, a shot?

"Barkus" expresses himself in his usual quiet demeanor, but is deeply concerned about which "shot" would be best!

We have to remember that this PSA Project is a long-term effort. Congressman Conyers recognizes that this current Congress is not going to meet its Constitutional responsibilities by passing H.R. 635, which makes it necessary to start building public support for it across America over the next several months through these PSA's and other activism. Public support for a Select Committee to investigate BushCo crimes must be high in January when the House reconvenes, so Congressman Conyers will be empowered to take immediate and effective action.
