Demanding Truth, Justice and Accountability in Government

Rumsfeld Needs To Be Fired, Sedated, and Institutionalized

Rusty

In a delusional trance characterized by an insidious disregard for reality unmatched since Joe McCarthy guzzled his last bottle of Jim Beam and choked to death on his own vomit, Donald Rumsfeld warned a carefully screened audience of American Legion members that Islamofascist terrorists, “are actively manipulating the media in this country” and can “lie with impunity.”

If any single statement can characterize the base hypocrisy and mindless paranoia of BushCo Republicans, that utterance of America’s very sick Secretary of Defense wins the prize. This fugitive from justice knows damn well that no one lies with impunity more than the pathological liars in the Bush Administration, the Republican Congress, and the RNC. In all of its long history, America has never before been subjected to such a relentless barrage of coldly calculated deceit.

In this dark age of Rovian mendacity, Republicans actively recruit pathological liars to run for public office. Conservative think tanks provide scholarships to aspiring young Republican liars and train them to become professional, highly-paid Republican liars. Polished rightwing talk radio liars invite less articulate rightwing liars to call in so they can lie to each other on the air and spread the latest Republican lies to millions of avid Republican listeners, who need their daily fix of lies so when it’s time to trade lies with other Republicans after church they’ll be able to hold up their end of the conversation.

The latest Republican lie is that “Islamofascism” is a grave threat to the survival of America. Blinded by their lust for enemies to demonize, Republican politicians, pundits, and wingnut drones are spewing this nonsense at the very time Republicans are warmongering like fascists, ruling like fascists, concealing their crimes like fascists, occupying sovereign countries like fascists, torturing human beings like fascists, and worshipping militarism like fascists.

Donald Rumsfeld should shut the hell up, take a look in a mirror, and book himself into the nearest psychiatric institution. But he won’t do that of course, because only Republicans can save America from these fiendish, swarthy, Islamofascist hordes about to storm our shores, lay waste to our democracy in the name of Allah, kidnap all of our white women, and have intercourse with them.

So . . . subverting elections like fascists, vilifying dissent like fascists, and manipulating the media like fascists is the only way Republicans can save us from being turned into the Islamofascist States of America by the evildoers. Race-baiting like fascists, hijacking patriotism like fascists, and allying themselves with big business like fascists is for our own good, and we will thank Republicans for their infinite wisdom someday.

Consequently, it is unfair to criticize them for ignoring the rule of law like fascists, for strutting and swaggering like fascists, and for peddling the Big Lie like fascists because cut-and-run appeasers like us just don’t understand the post-9/11 world, which requires staying the course with Republicans so they can finish the job of destroying American democracy in order to save it.

Thank you, Anna Diggs Taylor!

I hope the appeals judge that hears the case, is a patriot, like Judge Taylor, and upholds her judgement.

This court decision is getting HUGE attention all over Internet blogs. Let's hope the corporate media realizes it has no choice but to cover this major development.

Over at Kos, mcjoan has a great article posted about Taylor's ruling. mcjoan on Kos

I don't know what the appellate court will do, but Taylor whacked BushCo upside the head with a copy of the Constitution in this ruling, and her justifications for ruling as she did are irrefutable.

The third nail in the largest coffing being built for war criminals has been struck.

1. Hamdan v Rumsfeld
2. Lamont v Lieberman
3. This case: ACLU's clients v NSA/DoJ.

We are going to need a few more tonnes of nails though.

The Wilson/Plame lawsuit could do some real damage too. The RePugs used civil suit testimony by Clinton to bring impeachment to the House. The same thing can be done to Bush by Democrats.

When our leaders swear to uphold the constitution and the laws of this land they must be held accountable when they fail to do so. When we begin to justify wrongdoing we undermine our entire justice system. The terrorists have won a major battle when they have succeeded in seeing our liberties and rights slowly eroded by leaders who value expediency over constitutionality and the rule of law. Our democracy has been threatened, not by the terrorists, but by those in our government who have failed to abide by the very democratic principles this nation was founded on. This judge's ruling should be enforced if we wish to see true democracy remain in this nation.

Thank you, keenekarl, you identified the glaring hypocrisy of Bush and his RePugs, who foam at the mouth about terrorists hating democracy, when their own lawlessness and contempt for the Constitution proves that they hate democracy even more than the terrorists do.

There is no such thing as Islamic fascism, but there IS such a thing as Republican fascism. We see it every day.

In his latest babbling remarks, The Decider claimed that critics of his illegal spying just don't understand what kind of world we live in. I have news for that asshole, the average fifth-grader understands the world better than he does.
