Demanding Truth, Justice and Accountability in Government

The Ugly Reality of Republican Fascism

Rusty

Republicans are not going to air campaign ads proclaiming, "Hi! I'm a Fascist but let’s just pretend I’m not.” But that’s exactly what they are and exactly what they want every American to do. So between now and November 7, Netroots blogs had better start branding FASCIST on every Republican’s forehead, because no one else is going to. If we don't openly condemn these post-9/11 Republicans as fascists, we deserve to “lose” yet another rigged election.

These Midterms shouldn’t even be close. Democrats should have a lock on at least 50 House pickups and 10 Senate pickups. They don’t. Why? By the end of this article, you’ll know why.

Progressives who take such pride in their integrity, honesty, idealism, and courage are not demonstrating any of these qualities if they refuse to aggressively condemn Republicans as fascists. The evidence of Republican fascism is as glaring as it is nauseating. They subvert elections. They glorify militarism. They wage illegal wars. They abhor dissent. They spy on their domestic enemies. They control the media. They hijack religion. They fearmonger. They worship big business. They loathe labor unions. They infest government bureaucracies with cronies and hacks. They are racists. They are sexists. They rule through deceit, propaganda, corruption, and fearmongering. Bush is a fascist. Cheney is a fascist. Republicans in Congress are fascists.

Americans are staggering into the twilight of democracy because they do not want to believe the sickening truth about what this nation has become. They are afraid of losing their freedom, but they are even more afraid of defending it. I don’t want to hear anymore about this poll or that poll indicating Republicans “may lose Congress.” No one is ever going to crash through the fascist gates guarding these Beltway criminals and their enablers unless Netroots blogs tell Americans the sickening truth that the White House has become Amerika’s Chancellory and Congress has become its Reichstag. Who else will? No one.

Once upon a time in America, we had journalists who cared about the truth. They sought it and proclaimed it, but those days are gone. We had leaders who actually governed. They sought accord and valued it, but those days are gone. We were respected in the world, but those days are gone. We sought that respect and earned it, but those days are gone. We had elections and our votes were actually counted, but now we have Reality TV elections, screen-written by Karl Rove and sponsored by Diebold.

As progressives, there's so much we've had to go through. Countless times, we tried to make a difference, and managed to overcome our agony as defeat followed defeat, for we knew that giving up has never been an option. Evil flourishes when good people remain silent, and that has never been truer than in this Age of Rove, which reeks of evil everywhere we look. So why are progressive blogs so silent about Republican fascism?

Fascist liars and warmongers rule this country we love, and profit from our affliction. Our taxpayer dollars are used to bludgeon us into submission to corporate overlords, our courts are becoming the temples of theocrats, and our laws are little more than scraps of paper to be ignored into oblivion by Amerika’s smirking Fuhrer. Republican power is so entrenched in the federal bureaucracy, the courts, the Pentagon, the intelligence community, and in the electronic voting electoral system that restoring democracy to America is going to require a tidal wave of Democratic pickups in the House and Senate this November and a landslide presidential win in 2008.

Neither will happen unless Democrats finally understand that cowardice is even more repugnant to millions of Americans than fascism. If they don’t make Republican fascism THE ISSUE of these Midterms and redeem the party of Wilson and Roosevelt and JFK, they ARE cowards and don’t deserve control of Congress. If progressive blogs don’t loudly and aggressively brand Republicans as fascists from now until November 7, they will deserve to be suppressed and silenced in the aftermath of the last contested election in American history.

This isn’t rocket science. Republicans are fascists and Democrats and progressive blogs need to hammer that reality into every American voter nonstop for the next 47 days. If we do that, we will forge a realigning election that will gut the Republican Party for a generation and establish the Netroots as the foundation of a resurgent American democracy.

I doubt if our Dems will learn anything. I keep hoping they will grow some balls, but I am about to give up on them.

The survival of both parties is at stake on November 7. If the Dems win and investigate all of these Republican crimes, the GOP will become radioactive sludge. If Dems let RePugs steal yet another election, I will never support them again, and neither will millions of other progressives.

Can we REALLY send them to Mexico if they don't stand up for peoples rights?

Comment # 4 ~ Patriot ~ 09/04/2006 00:50 GMT

I'll pitch in to send them. Maybe it will help them find their long-lost moral courage.

I'd rather send most of them to Hell, but we're already in Hell because of them, so solutions are rather limited.

I figured we would send the Repugs to Hell, or Iraq. Dems need to be sent somewhere where they would lose their rights to remind them why they have to stand up for ours.

Well said, Alma. Average Americans have been paying a very high price while Democrats in Washington have been far more concerned about avoiding RePug smears than in protected our rights.

I remember one or two instances of moral courage amongst Democrats. I remember Sen. Feingold and Sen. Leahy being two alone men in attendance on Sen. Feingold's bill for impeachment. I remember Murtha's cries about the war. And, of course, the courage of JC. But all in all, it's not much to say for these past 6 years of acquiesence to this regime. Pretty disgusting, if you ask me.

So few fighting for our democracy on the floors of congress. Pretty sad summary Tahoe, isn't it?

Comment # 10 ~ Rusty ~ 09/11/2006 04:57 GMT

As far as I know, no Democrats have chartered a flight to Mexico City yet. That's a pity, because they could learn a thing or two from Mexican lawmakers about how democracy is supposed to work.
