FoleyGate Republicans Thrown Under Buses So Far: A Handy Scorecard

Rusty

This is becoming such a mess even Josh Marshall is getting dizzy. So in order to help out, I’m entering the fray. My journalistic experience is basically limited to looking at the pictures in The Weekly Reader back in grade school during the Kennedy Administration, but hey, that makes me more qualified in 2006 America to report the news than any of the RNC talking point stenographers currently employed by the corporate media in this country.

Bear with me, this may take awhile . . .

By now even Brownie is aware of the general sequence of events which have transpired since Pedophile Mark Foley (R) got frog-marched into oblivion by the Palm Beach PD, but with so many Republicans throwing each other under buses every five minutes, it would be useful to recap the action for those of you keeping score at home.

On Friday afternoon, Pedophile Coddler Dennis Hastert claimed he didn’t even know who Pedophile Mark Foley (R) was. This initial claim was about to be printed and broadcast all across Amerika’s corporate media until an alert intern at the New York Times noted meekly that Hastert’s claim didn’t appear to be very credible. After that intern was fired, declared a national security risk by Homeland Security, outed by the Free Republic, and rendered to Uzbekistan for waterboarding, the leaders of our free and independent press conferred and agreed that Pedophile Coddler Dennis Hastert (R) must have indeed known Pedophile Mark Foley (R), and duly reported this breaking news.

Instead of ABC, the Washington Post was apparently left out of the RNC Stenographer’s Loop ® at this point, and accidently kept pursuing this story, which produced a statement from Pedophile Coddler John Boehner (R) temporarily affirming that, “he had learned this spring of some ‘contact’ between Foley and a 16-year-old page. Boehner said he told House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert and that Hastert assured him ‘we’re taking care of it.” After a brief but no doubt spectacular conversation with Pedophile Coddler Hastert (R), Pedophile Coddler Boehner’s (R) new and improved memory compelled him to salute the Speaker of the Pedophile Coddlers and throw himself under a bus.

By Saturday evening, Pedophile Coddler Tom Reynolds (R) resolved to demonstrate that Pedophile Coddler Hastert (R) and Pedophile Coddler Boehner (R) weren’t the only Pedophile Coddlers who knew how to throw other Pedophile Coddlers and/or themselves under buses, so he duly threw Pedophile Coddler Hastert (R) and Pedophile Coddler Rodney Alexander (R) under the first two buses available.

“Rodney Alexander brought to my attention the existence of e-mails between Mark Foley and a former page of Alexander’s,” Pedophile Coddler Reynolds (R) probably pulled out of his ass. “Despite the fact that I had not seen the e-mails in question, [LIE] and Mr. Alexander told me that the parents didn’t want the matter pursued, [LIE] I told the Speaker of the conversation Mr. Alexander had with me.”

More accustomed to throwing other Pedophile Coddlers under a bus than being thrown under a bus himself, it’s no surprise that being thrown under a bus twice in one day did not sit well with Pedophile Coddler Hastert (R), who crawled out from under the latest bus and immediately convened an emergency meeting of his best liars. Only a few pounding Republican heartbeats later, Pedophile Coddler Hastert (R) released a concocted ass-covering pack of lies, which imploded within hours as Congressman Kildee (D), a multitude of progressive bloggers, and assorted interns at the AP, WaPo, and NYT shot it full of holes.

Not to be outdone, Pedophile Coddler John Shimkus (R) proceeded to throw the entire Pedophile Coddler Leadership (R) under a fleet of buses, and then threw himself under the last bus by telling the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Pedophile Foley’s (R) e-mails had been read by every Republican in Washington except Jean Schmidt, who as we all know, is illiterate.

During a brief intermission in the festivities late Saturday night, a Reynolds aide observed, “This is what happens when one member tries to throw another member under a bus.”

I only have one more thing to add at this point: Pedophile Mark Foley (R) forgot to smile during his mug shot. What a rookie.

Good analysis, Reed. Olbermann nailed this too, Bush and his torturers are staring war crimes charges in the face, and they know it. The frantic hyperventilating we saw from Bush on Friday confirms it.

Good roundup of things Reed. I loved the Olberman piece the other day with Jonathan Turley. Lets just hope the repugs that are standing tall on this continue to stand. I've seen them sit down too many times for their Commander in Thief to have any faith thay they will stick by their positions.

As is notorious with BushCo, they will do anything and everything in an effort to slither away from the responsibilities of their conduct. To attempt to deem the language of Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions as "vague," is but one more such effort. It is just more of their BS -- there is nothing vague about Article 3 in the slightest -- the language is plain and clear. As you know, they are attempting to re-arrange the language with Congress in an effort to put themselves on "safer" grounds. Reality is, there is nothing, but nothing to prevent them from being subjugated to the laws and penalties as outlined in Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions.

Meantime, BushCo's efforts through Congress is an effort to protect themselves here in the eventuality of criminal trials against them.

If the UN were to commence action, it would be a wish come true. It would be a definitive way of putting an end to BushCo and seeing them pay their just dues, IMHO.

Double thit.

I watched Bush's Friday presser and he was really steamed up. It was good to see him losing it. He sounded dumb, too. Repeating the same nonsense, having to search for words.

Bush & Co may try to change US law regarding the Geneva Convention, but they can't change how the rest of the world views it!

BUsh & Co ARE guilty of war crimes, and now it just remains to be seen as to whether or not the citizens of the United States hold them accountable - or whether the international community is forced to.

I hope, for the sake of our relationship with the rest of the world, that we will step up and do our duty to hold these guys accountable!

Well, Karl, as to your last sentence, my last sentence differs from yours -- yes, it would be great to see our own country do the right thing in the eyes of the world, but, if not, I am all for the UN taking the necessary measures.

Glenn Greenwald has two very good articles about this issue, in which he examines how far down into the slime of fascism Arlen Specter and John Yoo have sunk.

Keith Olbermann certainly does nail it good. His special comment tonight is well worth the few minutes to hear.

BUSH: If there’s any comparison between the compassion and decency of the American people and the terrorist tactics of extremists, it’s flawed logic. It’s just — I simply can’t accept that. It’s unacceptable to think that there’s any kind of comparison between the behavior of the United States of America and the action of Islamic extremists who kill innocent women and children to achieve an objective.
Remember, when talking about terrorism, "It's unacceptable to think...", because he is the decider, and he has decided war crimes are more than he is willing to pay for.
