Demanding Truth, Justice and Accountability in Government

The GOP's Evil Nitwit Factory

Rusty

Way back in 1900, William Jennings Bryan warned his fellow Democrats: “Against us are arrayed a comparatively small but politically and financially powerful number who really profit by Republican policies; but with them are associated a large number who, because of their attachment to their party name, are giving
their support to doctrines antagonistic to the former teachings of their own party.”

Some things never change . . .

In 1944 Franklin Roosevelt described Republican smear tactics: “These Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me, or my wife, or on my sons. No, not content with that, they’re now attacking my little dog, Fala.”

Some things never change . . .

In 1952 Harry Truman observed: “Richard Nixon is a no good, lying bastard. He can lie out of both sides of his mouth at the same time.”

Some things never change . . .

In 1962 JFK noted, “Those steel company executives are sons of bitches.”

Some things never change . . .

In 1980 Ted Kennedy warned: “The same Republicans who are talking about security for the elderly have nominated a man who said just four years ago that ‘Participation in social security should be made voluntary.’”

Some things never change . . .

In 2004 John Kerry told Republicans, “Our flag doesn’t belong to any president. It doesn’t belong to any ideology and it doesn’t belong to any political party. It belongs to all the American people.”

Ready for a change?

Republicans haven’t listened. They never listen. They have never changed. They never will change. This latest batch of evil nitwits from the GOP’s Evil Nitwit Factory are the heirs of McKinley’s ruthless ambition, Coolidge’s stupidity, Hoover’s arrogance, McCarthy’s treachery, Nixon’s deceit, Ford’s incompetence, Reagan’s delusions, and Bush’s lawlessness. But America is going to change, because we are going to shut down the GOP’s Evil Nitwit Factory on November 7 and show America what real democracy looks like.

As we enter these last days before Election Day, the words of Mario Cuomo still echo in our hearts: “We believe as Democrats, that a society as blessed as ours, the most affluent democracy in the world’s history, one that can spend trillions on instruments of destruction, ought to be able to help the middle class in its struggle, ought to be able to find work for all who can do it, room at the table, shelter for the homeless, care for the elderly and infirm, and hope for the destitute.”

As we give everything we have, and then give some more, the words of George McGovern still implore us to reclaim America’s greatness: “It is time for this land to become once again a witness to the world for what is just and noble in human affairs. It is time to live more with faith and less with fear. From secrecy and deception in high places; come home, America. From military spending so wasteful that it weakens our nation; come home, America. From the entrenchment of special privileges in tax favoritism; from the prejudice based on race and sex; from the loneliness of the aging poor and the despair of the neglected sick, come home, America. Come home to the affirmation that we have a dream. Come home to the conviction that we can move our country forward. Come home to the belief that we can seek a newer world, and let us be joyful in that homecoming, for this land is your land, this land is my land, this land was made for you and me.”

As we knock on doors and phone bank and talk to voters, the words of Jesse Jackson still inspire us, “Our time has come. Suffering breeds character. Character breeds faith. In the end, faith will not disappoint. Our time has come. Our faith, hope, and dreams will prevail. Our time has come. Weeping has endured for nights, but now joy cometh in the morning. Our time has come. No grave can hold our body down. Our time has come. No lie can live forever. America, our time has come. We come from disgrace to amazing grace. Come November, there will be a change, because our time has come.”

As we participate in yet another rally, and ring yet another doorbell, and put up another hundred yard signs, the boundless faith of Paul Wellstone still guides us, “I do not believe the future will belong to the cynics, or to those who stand on the sideline. The future will belong to those who have passion, and to those who are willing to make the personal commitment to make our country better. The future will belong to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in the beauty of his Dream, and the future he longed for is at last within our reach. So “From every mountainside, let freedom ring! Let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania. Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado. Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California. Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia. Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee. Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.”

We hear you, Dr. King. And we will be heard. Freedom is going to ring out across this land on November 7. It is going to ring out from every voting booth. It is going to ring out from every exit poll. It is going to echo across this angry land from Kennebunkport to Crawford to San Clemente. It is going to vibrate the fillings right out of Karl Rove’s gnashing teeth. It is going to rattle the walls of the White House and the Congress and RNC like the thunder of Judgment Day.

Freedom.

November 7.

Bring it home.

Unfortunately, these Democrats are the only ones we have. Some of them are waking up and netroots is becoming a strong force to be paid attention to. We have some hope... some.

That is an unfortunate fact. If this were poker, I'd say we were playing five card draw nothing wild. We are sitting with a King, Queen, Jack, and 10 of hearts and the democrats keep dealing us a Deuce of hearts. A flush would probably be a winner, but that Ace coming through would crush the opposition.

Reed, great post. I sent two emails to a list that has foreign members. My first email arrived back to me 2 DAYS after the second email sent.

Rather curious, eh??? I hope within every thread of my being that we can win this election and turn the House and Senate back to the Dems, for whatever that's worth.

Brace yourselves, everyone, these last three weeks are going to be very tense.
