Demanding Truth, Justice and Accountability in Government

Madison, Jefferson, and Hamilton Would Approve

Reed31463

After the unconditional surrender at Yorktown (Nov 7th), the time will come for the netroots to insist that America needs to FIX accountability, INSTATE justice, and REPAIR a serious flaw in the US Constitution.

Although I have not addressed the subject much, I now believe the time to start talking about repairing the Constitution has come. The groundwork is in place through the debates found in the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers. They continue the work of the founding fathers Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton et al. They understood that unresolved issues or unforeseen forces may appear long after their lives have expired. They left open the door that perhaps the balance they struck would not be perfect. That perhaps, these unresolved debates would find answers with time. Time that, only through their written letters and debates, could they reach across.

The time will come soon that America and the netroots will need to reassess what occurred that almost allowed the Constitution to fail freedom and democracy. After a thorough investigation into how this has occurred, we can address solutions based upon the written debates of our founding fathers and the agreed upon weaknesses that were exploited.

7) Reforms to US Constitution, Governance

The New Constitution planning continues. American citizens should continue to work with their friends to solicit inputs, foster discussion, and encourage open debate outside Congress on what changes are required to prevent this abuse of power.

These Constitutional reforms can be implemented with a New Constitution, in accordance with Federalist 78, and do not require the Amendment process, only government sponsored changes.

A. Prepare Voter Comments

Voter and citizen comments should be organized into problem-remedy format. The goal is to outline an improvement of the Constitutional system. Some changes include creating a tri-cameral system; or splitting the Executive into two or three different Presidents. Other ideas include diluting the power of the senate and transferring Congressional Oversight to State-level regulated entities.

B. Identify Remedies To One-Party Control

Voters have the power to choose their candidates. However, we've seen the abuses under the Republican party. The discussion should focus on the reasonable way that a single party, if it controls all three branches, can be credibly checked. Some ideas include mandatory minority-party leadership; or splitting the Chairmanship on the basis of time: If a minority party has 10% of the votes, then it should control the Chairmanship on all committees 10% of the time.

C. Method to Credibly Enforce Oath of Office

5 USC 3331 is the Member of Congress oath of office. The problem has been the failure of the House Ethics Committee, Attorney General, and Department of Justice to effectively enforce 5 USC 3331, especially during times of Presidential rebellion against the Constitution.

There must be a method to effectively sanction members of Congress for 5 USC 3331 violations. The Constitution should include reminders for the State-level actors to enforce federal law when Federal officials fail to protect the states' guaranteed right to an enforcement mechanism under a Constitutional Republic.

It will be then that history will recognize the founding fathers true greatness and their foresight fully understood. We must prepare the groundwork for the people to gain acceptance that something went wrong; terribly wrong. We must make people understand that we are not destroying what was created back in 1787, but rather they are reaching across some 220 odd years to help guide us in maintaining our freedoms and liberties. They too foresaw that this may happen and they are giving us their permission and guidance to correct the situation.

Well, only 14 people live in ND, and I'm the only one Pomeroy has never called, so it's about time he got around to calling me. I posted some info on ConyersBlog about what he said, so you can check that out, or contact me this weekend for further details.

i still dont know what in ny i can do to affect anything, write letters to the ny times?? you have to be a resident of the state to have any clout writing a letter to your paper...

Looks like Pomeroy has enough moral fiber left that he does not like being considered a "fucking disgrace" or the thought of those words being circulated about him. But he is just another one of those weak and spineless critters -- "Oh, let's see now, I better wait until I see what others think!" Blah, blah, blah! GOOD GOING!

Clearly, you gave him a wake up. I wonder if anything sunk in... he needs to comprehend what the people are thinking. And you surely let him know.

Glad you got a response from Pomeroy. How can he justify NOT pursuing impeachment when this SHRUB has committed far more crimes than either Clinton or Nixon? Perhaps THAT question should be posed to him! Is Pomeroy saying that Bush is innocent of committting even misdemeanors? The threshhold isn't really all that high - if the President breaks THE LAW he has done enough to reach the threshold for impeachment!

At least there are people like Conyers who see the facts and know what needs to be done!

Let's hope that a strong showing in November will give the DEMS some boldness to begin the investigations that will inevitably lead to impeachment hearings. It may be a long and drawn out process, but it needs to be done! Bush & Co need to be held accountable!

There is no reason why this can't be done by the DEMS while also pursuing their other legislative goals. As the facts come out during their investigations about Bush, public support for the DEMS would grow. Their fears of a public backlash would ultimately be proved wrong. I think that pursuing investigations would demonstrate the backbone that many Americans are looking for in their leaders!

I would like Pelosi and Reid to open their complicit cowardly fucking mouths and call these fascist criminals in the White House and Congress the LIARS they truly are.
