Pentagon on the Brink of Revolt
Rusty
In a stunning public repudiation of George W. Bush, the United States military’s four major papers are demanding the firing or resignation of Donald Rumsfeld. The Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times and Marine Times will confront the Chickenhawk-in-Chief with what amounts to an ultimatum just one day before the Midterm elections:
“Rumsfeld has lost credibility with the uniformed leadership, with the troops, with Congress and with the public at large. His strategy has failed, and his ability to lead is compromised. And although the blame for our failures in Iraq rests with the secretary, it will be the troops who bear its brunt. This is not about the Midterm elections. Regardless of which party wins Nov. 7, the time has come, Mr. President, to face the hard bruising truth: Donald Rumsfeld must go.”
Spin THAT, Tony Snow, you blow-dried smart ass. It seems that America’s generals have finally seen enough and have at long last resolved to confront Bush and his scheming Republican hacks. What compelled them to take such unprecedented action on the very eve of the most crucial Midterm election in American history?
The reasons are stark, ominous, and comprehensively incriminating.
1) Bush and his partisan hacks ignored warnings in the summer of 2001 that Al Qaeda would attack the United States.
2) The misconduct of Bush and his partisan hacks on the days before 9/11, on 9/11 itself, and in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 was treasonous.
3) Bush and his partisan hacks refused to deploy the 10th Mountain Division to Tora Bora in December of 2001, and Bin Laden escaped.
4) Bush and his partisan hacks conspired to launch an illegal war against Iraq, unleashed that illegal war in defiance of international law, and have conspired to conceal their treachery ever since.
5) Their illegal occupation of Iraq has inflicted more than twenty-three thousand American casualties, has cost $400 billion dollars, and has increased terrorism.
6) Bush and his partisan hacks destroyed a covert CIA network working to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
7) Bush and his partisan hacks have abandoned Afghanistan to the Taliban and Al Qaeda.
8) Bush and his partisan hacks are decimating the finest volunteer army ever fielded, and Cheney just vowed to continue this decimation “full speed ahead.”
9) Bush and his partisan hacks are presiding over and directing a war profiteering binge of staggering proportions, while the families of American soldiers have to wait in line for food donations on bases all across this country, and must borrow from predatory lenders so they can pay their bills.
10) Bush and his partisan hacks have already lost two wars, but are plotting to attack Iran because their war profiteering binge thus far has only whetted the appetite of their corrupt defense contractor co-extortionists.
11) Bush and his partisan hacks have seized control of the National Guard from state governors, in violation of the Constitution.
12) Bush and his partisan hacks have implemented the Military Commissions Act, in violation of the Geneva Convention and the Constitution.
13) Bush and his partisan hacks have published atomic bomb making information on the Internet, thus escalating the threat of a terrorist nuclear attack on the United States.
14) Bush and his partisan hacks have eliminated the last remaining oversight capacity of Congress and have thus ensured that billions more dollars will vanish into the bloody, bottomless pit of Iraq.
15) Bush and his partisan hacks have vowed that Rumsfeld will remain in power at the Pentagon until the end of Bush’s presidency.
If this simmering revolt in the Pentagon is any indication, the end of Bush’s presidency may come sooner than the Chickenhawk-in-Chief and his F-Troop ass kissers in our hijacked White House and on Corruption Hill think it will. When that end comes, it won’t be a minute too soon for our soldiers in the blasted wasteland of Iraq, for this humiliated country, and for this fearful world.
The Midterms and ensuing investigations may hasten that end, but if yet another election is stolen by Bush and his partisan hacks, the sight of Abrams tanks on the South Lawn of the White House may greet us one winter morning when we turn on the news. After the surreal six years we’ve just been through, who among us can say it won’t happen?
Comment # 1 ~ Alma ~ 10/15/2006 01:18 GMT I think this might be one of the best motivational pieces you have written. I think it shows the heart of true progressives. And we will win. There is no other alternative.
Comment # 2 ~ tahoebasha1 ~ 10/15/2006 01:53 GMT Alma, I am with you -- all the way!
Comment # 3 ~ tahoebasha1 ~ 10/15/2006 02:02 GMT This is one of Rusty's most emotional of cries -- but the most sincere and heartfelt of them all. All of our progressive hearts "bleed" -- no exception! WE DO know the answers. We have truly been confronted with EVIL -- now, we must set this EVIL aside and move forward with all our hearts and souls -- and SET AMERICA ON THE RIGHT TRACK, never to be lost again. This will require enormous efforts on behalf of every single one of us -- but we need to establish a future -- a future for our children founded on our Democracy and our forefathers, and one we have always prided ourselves with.
Comment # 4 ~ Reed31463 ~ 10/15/2006 02:08 GMT I hope someday I will be able to see through my vail of hate and experience moments of happiness again. But right now the only thing that keeps me going is anger and hate.
I hate them for what they have done and I am angry that still so many people are blind.
Comment # 5 ~ tahoebasha1 ~ 10/15/2006 02:16 GMT Like you, Reed, we are all so filled with anger and hate for what has happened in this country and for all that has been done -- there are not adequate descriptives to fully litanize this experience we have and are having -- never did we believe that THIS could happen in the United States of America, and, yet, it has. Maybe, that's part of the problem -- the inability to see and believe that it is really so.
Comment # 6 ~ keenekarl ~ 10/15/2006 05:58 GMT Hand me the hanky! WOW! Rusty, that was beautiful! That was powerful! That expressed what so many of our hearts have just been bursting to say, but didn't know quite how to say it! Thanks for putting the cry of our hearts into words! This indeed is a decisive moment in our existence as a free and moral nation. It's looking quite hopeful in November - but let's not take anything for granted! Let's keep up the fight until every last vote has been cast and properly counted! And that won't be the end - even if we get a DEM victory in both the House and the Senate - we must continue to speak the truth and push for the right things to be done! We will not lose this battle because we have remained silent! If, by some terrible injustice, the REPUGS win, it will be because people have refused to hear the truth! For the sake of us all - may that not be the case!
Comment # 7 ~ Patriot ~ 10/15/2006 07:22 GMT Totally beautiful and wonderful. Thank you, Rusty, for putting into such eloquent words what is in our hearts.
Comment # 8 ~ topperfalls ~ 10/16/2006 05:03 GMT great job i agree, but the bottom line is there nothing we can do about stupid people in tenneessee or other states, that prefer the smug stupid leadership of Bush and Co. to anyone else ... i hope to hell the Dems get back control, but living by your own principles and contiuing to voice opinions and be a voice of truth and reason still has power and always will ...
