Iraq Moratorium: Speaking Truth To Power Across America

Rusty

We are progressives. Unlike politicians, we keep our promises. On September 21, 2007, we can show the world that Americans across this country are going to stand up to that lying criminal in the White House. Those babbling doorknob polishers currently inhabiting the House and Senate will not stand up to him. Bush is a despised lame duck president who destroys everything he touches, but they still won’t stand up to him.

So we’re going to. But that’s not all we’re going to do.

Congressmen and senators who will not vote to end the Commander Guy's occupation of Iraq are going to have their occupation of Congress ended. By us. That’s a promise. It's a promise from us to the soldiers they sent to Iraq four years ago and have been betraying ever since. It’s a promise we will sanctify in the streets of this country on Moratorium Day. It’s a promise we have the strength, determination and honor to keep, and we are going to keep that promise.

I've heard the condescending criticism against demonstrations. I've heard the cynics claim that demonstrations are obsolete in this age of the Internet and YouTube and e-mails to Congress. I've also heard the sobbing of too many grieving parents. And the weeping of too many soldier's widows. And the tolling of too many funeral bells. And the din of hackery that Congress calls meaningful debate. And far too many lectures about patriotism from a lying warmonger near beer guzzler who doesn't have a fucking clue what patriotism is and never will.

If Impeachment is off the table, and withdrawal dates are off the table, and 50 years in Iraq is ON the table, then perhaps it's time for the oh so wise Masters of Information Age Politics among us to set their sophistication aside for just one day. Just one day, that's all we're asking. Join us in the streets. Redeploy your progressive butts from your computer chairs into the streets where the American people are. Your computers will still be there when you get home.

Iraq Moratorium Day.
Bring your conscience.
Bring your voice.
Bring our soldiers home.

When I was young, Americans walked proudly on the Sea of Tranquility, while the world watched in admiration and awe. Today, Americans are trudging with guns through streets of carnage in Baghdad, while the world recoils in horror. Internet blogging has not ended this nightmare in Iraq. It's not going to. Ever. But combining blogging with raising our voices in our streets against our government to save our soldiers and redeem our country can end it.

The people of the Philippines filled their streets and ended the Marcos dictatorship. The people of Russia filled their streets and ended Soviet Communism. The people of Ukraine filled their streets and ended the hijacking of their presidential election.

Do any of you sophisticated but bleary-eyed, computer-monitor-gazing political strategerists who scorn demonstrations see a pattern there? If not, rub your eyes and take another look.

Observations from a Peace Activist

FrostedFlake

Hi.

Does God Exist?

Does he talk to individuals?

What was he saying to me, with the 'ol stick upside the head? How often does a crippled man attack a nimble one. How often does a nimble man get held still and a crippled man get held upright so the assault may continue?

Surely, this is rare. To succeed at what those gentalmen were up to, they would have needed my cooperation. I would have had to patiently stand there, so I could be slapped around. Like a Democrat.

I didn't, so things didn't work out the way they did in Washington D.C. earlier the same day. In Washington, the Democrats did hold still, and a crippled President did get held upright so he could slap them, yet again, for being the cowards I was accused of being.

So. Why?

It is instructive to note the discipline demonstrated by the vote on the rules of debate for the war bill. Rules that said "No ammendment allowed", with all that that implies. Almost all of the Democrats v ... Read More (10 comments)

The Democrats Lied

FrostedFlake

Hi Folks,

I was asked to come up with the two roll call records of Friday's stab in the back.

These are vote #418 & #425. Yes, it is difficult to tell what these votes are for from reading the page. The information is not on the page. You are supposed to know which page you asked for. But you are not asking, I did that. You are just being handed the result, by me. Yes, I assure all, these are the correct pages.

Roll Call

That these are the correct pages may be verified by observing citations in various places, including near the end of Mr. Sirotas' story breaking column, here:
Sirota

Mr.Sirota's column takes a while to load. It is 815 Kbytes, because there are 650 comments. I assure you, the page is not broken. Simply VERY popular.

The essential point: The Democrats lied to those who support them, in order to support those who lie to those who support them...which means they are both on the same side, and it ain't ours.

A Promise We Are Going to Keep

"Earth to Madame Speaker . . ."

Rusty

Which part of, “Kiss my ass, I’m the Unitary Executive Commander Guy” haven’t you and Harry Reid figured out yet?

How many times are you going to bring a toothpick to a gun fight? How many times are you going to try to “compromise” with that smirking idiot from Crawford? How many times are we supposed to endure these humiliating c ... Read More (7 comments)

Millions of Felonies? Billions of Felonies? Get Your Calculators Out . . .

Rusty

Ever since October 2001, a felony has been committed every time an American citizen has been illegally spied on. George Walker Bush has committed these felonies, he is directly responsible for every one of them.

Paul Kiel speaks for all of us when he says, “It’s time that the Democrats in Congress blow the lid of ... Read More (3 comments)
